Our Story

One day, while watching Dragons' Den, I came across a business called Thortful.

The idea was simple but brilliant. Independent creatives design greeting cards, and every time one sells, the designer earns a commission.

But there was another reason behind the idea.

When I started looking at personalised chocolate bars, I was surprised by what I found.

So many options were simply paper wrappers printed at home or professionally, then wrapped around ordinary supermarket chocolate bars. Others were generic, mass-produced chocolates sourced from overseas the sort of little chocolates you might get with the bill at an Indian restaurant! 😂

Nothing wrong with those chocolates, of course. But I thought, surely we can do something a little more special?

Why couldn't personalised chocolate be creative, beautifully designed and genuinely premium?

Not just a piece of paper wrapped around a chocolate bar, but a proper, professionally flow-wrapped product. Delicious Swiss milk chocolate, professionally produced and packaged here in the UK, with the artwork becoming part of the finished product.

That's when PLONKKAA really started to take shape.

We wanted to give independent artists a completely new canvas for their creativity.

They create the artwork. We make the chocolate. And every time their design sells, they earn a commission.

Andy Pearce, the founder of Thortful, showed me what was possible when you give independent creatives a platform to showcase their work. His journey has inspired me ever since.
